More adventures / End of July 2007

July 23-July 31, 2007
Isaac’s obsession this week is about balloons and letting them go. Ever since he ran out the door at Daniel’s birthday party and set “free” a few balloons, he wants to relive the experience. He loves reading books about birthdays and asking the characters if he can have a turn with their balloons and then pretends to let go of them.
Levi’s getting close to a “tipping point” with walking. He took about 15 steps on Tuesday at the book store. Crazy. He still speed crawls pretty fast.
Isaac is finally realizing that he doesn’t have to respond to a question by repeating the whole content- so now he’s just saying “yes,” or “si”
Levi has a new bag of tricks—he can point is finger, clap, and do the twist (just kidding)—he’s also very social and jabbers a lot.
For our final Sophie adventures we went to the San Jacinto monument and did a tour of the downtown buildings and tunnels. The elevator was broken at the San Jacinto monument which was pretty devastating for Isaac. Sophie also went to see NASA with my friend Alisa and on a shopping trip with Julia. Sophie had to leave on Sunday, but she left Houston with great memories and many unique adventures and lots of great stories for her family.

Sophie Dubois visits Houston, TX July 2007

July 16-July 22, 2007
Levi clapped deliberately for the first time on Monday. Very cute.
Isaac was beside himself with happiness when we found Elmo and the birthday party, Baby Mozart and Baby Galileo at the library this week. He till obesesses over the baby Einstein covers.
Levi is making tons of new sounds. This week James and I got him to repeat “uh-oh” and he’ll do it pretty well.
My friend Sophie Dubious flew in on Wednesday all the way from Paris, France to visit us for 10 days. I went to the airport to pick her up and Isaac had a blast riding on the shuttle bus and the airport trams, elevators, and escalators. He was pretty disappointed that we weren’t getting on a plane with James though.
On Thursday we took Sophie to the Galleria and on Friday we went to the Natural Science Museum. The butterfly and bug exhibit at the library was pretty amazing. Isaac loved the huge waterfall at the end.
On Saturday Sophie wanted to visit a real Texas ranch so I did some research online ant found one about a half hour away close to Brookshire. The lady there drove us around on a little golf cart and showed us her horses, llamas, chickens, pigs, dogs, and guest cabins. She had a ton of dogs that she takes care of and Isaac was not too keen on the dogs.
Saturday with took Sophie to get icecream and she had her first “Coldstone” icecream experience. We also lucked out and got to see a hockey game going on at the ice rink inside the mall.

My Birthday

July 9-July 15, 1007
Momma’s birthday! It was my birthday on Thursday. It’s hard to believe that I’m already 32. Wow. Wednesday night the young women from my ward came over to my house and we had a sleep over activity and mini-birthday celebration. The girls wanted to paint nails so I ended up with purple toe nails and glow in the dark fingernails. On Thursday night Tim and Julia babysat for us so that James and I could go out on a little date—very cool of them.
Levi started taking his first steps this week! Crazy. He’s so little, but I guess he sees his brother and wants to join the bi-ped world.
Levi can say “mama” pretty well now and he seems to be associating the sound with me which is pretty adorable.

Thai 4th of July etc.

July 2- July 8 2007
Thai 4th of July. There are a couple of Thai MBA students doing internships at DOW with James this summer, so James invited them to invited them to cook for a small group of friends so we could all experience a Thai Fourth of July. We took them shopping for ingredients at one of the Asian markets and we were amazed at all of the exotic combos they came up with. We all went over to Alisa and Lonnie Mercer’s house and luckily they have a huge kitchen that accommodated the day long cooking affair. Our Thai friends, Nee and Niran seriously kept making one dish after another. . .and then another. Everyone was pretty stuffed at the end.
Levi weaned himself from his binky this week. Lately he hasn’t really needed it and now if you try to give it to him he’ll spit it out—hooray! I’m really glad that that process was pretty painless. I expected him to put up more of a fight, but he did it on his own.

Isaac threw something at Levi in the backseat when we were driving on Westheimer home from the library and it freaked me out so I yelled at Isaac very forcefully and he was quiet for a second and then said, “Can I kiss you mom?”

We ate Sunday dinner at the Turner’s house (a family friend of James’ from Michigan who just moved to Houston over in the Katy area). We made cookies together afterwards and when the cookies were too hot to eat Isaac said, “Queires soplarlo mama?”

Cama para Isaac! On Saturday we FINALLY went and got Isaac a bunk bed at IKEA. Tim and Julia helped James put it together on it looks really good. At first Isaac just wanted to jump on it, but we settled him down and had him practice going up and down the ladder.
